ज़ौक़ के 19अश'आर

एक आँसू ने डुबोया मुझको उनकी बज़्म में।

 बूँद भर पानी से सारी आबरू पानी हुई।। ...   

 One tear drowned me in her esteemed contact., 

One drop of water watered down all my respect.... 

अब तो घबरा के ये कहते हैं कि मर जाएँगे। 

मर के भी चैन न आया तो किधर जाएँगे।।.... 

Feeling nervous, he says "he will die." 

If still unsatisfied, which path to try?...... 

हम नहीं वो जो करें ख़ून का दावा तुझ पर। 

हम से पूछेगा ख़ुदा भी तो मुकर जाएँगे। 

I will not blame you for my death. 

If God asks me, I 'll simply deny. 

ऐ शम'अ तेरी उम्र तबीई है एक रात। हँसकर गुज़ार या इसे रोकर गुज़ार दे।। 

O candle flame! Your life is just one night. 

You may pass it crying or laughing outright.

गुल भला कुछ तो बहारें ऐ  सबा! दिखला गए। 

हसरत उन ग़ुन्चों पे है जो बिन खिले मुरझा गए ।। 

O breeze! Flowers show their beauty 'n colours as they bloom. 

My regret is for those buds that dwindled spreading the gloom.....1

I share the pleasure when flowers bloom. 

Dying buds dent my heart with gloom...... 2

लाई हयात आए, क़ज़ा ले चली चले। 

अपनी ख़ुशी न आए, न अपनी ख़ुशी चले।। 

Life brought' n I came here, left when door of death was shown. 

Neither have I come on my own, nor can I leave on my own. 

शुक्र पर्दे में ही उस बुत को हया ने रखा। 

वर्ना ईमान गया ही था ख़ुदा ने रखा।। 

Well, thanks that modesty kept her veiled. 

Or I could lose my faith, God be hailed! 

मुद्दत के बाद उसने जो की लुत्फ़ की निगाह। 

जी ख़ुश तो हो गया मगर आँसू निकल पड़े। 

After a long time, when she looked with pleasure. 

My heart was pleased but eyes spilled treasure. 

अगर ये जानते चुन चुन के हम को तोड़ेंगे। 

तो गुल कभी न तमन्ना-ए-रंग-ओ-बू करते। 

We'll be chosen 'n plucked, if earlier this was known. 

Flowers won't ask for colour' n fragrance on their own. 

तुम जिसे याद करो फिर उसे क्या याद रहे। 

न ख़ुदाई की हो परवाह न ख़ुदा याद रहे। 

One whom you remember, why should he keep record. 

Neither he remembers the world nor it's maker, Lord. 

कितने मुफ़लिस हो गए कितने तवंगर हो गए। 

ख़ाक में जब मिल गए दोनों बराबर हो गए। 

Many were poor, others rich with fame. 

Under the soil cover, equal they became. 

फ़रोग़ ए इश्क़ से है रौशनी जहाँ के लिए। 

यही चिराग़ है इस तीरा ख़ाकदाँ के लिए। 

When love grows, for the world there is light. 

For this dark world, lamp of love emits light. 

शम'अ भी कम नहीं कुछ इश्क़ में परवाने से। 

जान देता है अगर वो तो ये सर देती है। 

O firemoth! Candle flame isn't less than you. 

If you have givenu life, it is giving head too.

न हुआ पर न हुआ मीर का अंदाज़ नसीब। 

' ज़ौक़' यारों ने बहुत ज़ोर ग़ज़ल में मारा

No one could gain Mir's style now or then. 

O 'Zauq' many stalwarts on ghazal tried pen. 

हवा पे दौड़ता है इस तरह से अब्र-ए-सियाह। 

कि जैसे जाए कोई फील-ए-मस्त बे-ज़ंजीर। 

So floats a dark dense cloud on windy terrain. 

As if an elephant in heat goes without chain. 

तर-दामनी पे शैख़ हमारी न जाइयो। 

दामन निचोड़ दें तो फ़रिश्ते वुज़ू करें। 

About my wet cloak O priest, don't talk. 

If squeezed, for handwash, angels 'd flock. 

ऐ' ज़ौक़' होश गर है तो दुनिया से दूर भाग

इस मय-कदे में काम नहीं होशियार का। 

O' Zauq' if you have sense, from world run away. 

In this tavern, the sensible do not have any say.. 

मौत ने कर दिया नाचार वगर्ना इंसाँ। 

है वो ख़ुदबीं कि ख़ुदा का भी न क़ायल होता। 

Death has set a bar, or else the man.  

Is so proud, that even God hardly  can.
