आँसुओं में धुली ख़ुशी की तरह।
रिश्ते को होते हैं शायरी की तरह।
आओ जानाँ ! बादलों के साथ - साथ।
धूप जाती है कहाँ, पीछा करें।
वही पढ़ने- लिखने का शौक़ था, वही पढ़ने - लिखने का शौक़ है।
तिरा नाम लिखना किताब पर, तिरा नाम लिखना किताब में।
एक मुठ्ठी ख़ाक थे हम एक मुठ्ठी ख़ाक हैं
उस की मर्ज़ी है हमें दरिया करे सहरा करे
तू जानता नहीं मिरी चाहत अजीब सी है।
मुझको मना रहा है कभी ख़ुद ख़फ़ा भी हो
कभी-कभी तो छलक पडती हैं यूँ ही आँखें।
उदास होने का कोई सबब नहीं होता।
At times, our eyes just spill over.

कभी तो शाम ढले अपने घर गए होते।
किसी की आँख में रह कर सँवर गए होते

राहों में कौन आया गया कुछ पता नहीं।
उसको तलाश करते रहे जो मिला नहीं।
I don't even know, who passed by on street.
I searched for the one whom I didn't meet.
मैं चुप रहा तो और ग़लत-फ़हमियाँ बढ़ीं।
वो भी सुना है उसने जो मैंने कहा नहीं।
Misunderstandings rose, as I kept lips close.
What I did not say, her ears heard it anyway .
न जी भर के देखा न कुछ बात की।
बड़ी आरज़ू थी मुलाक़ात की।
Neither I talked nor eyes had a treat.
There was a longing for me to meet.
हम भी दरिया हैं हमें अपना हुनर मालूम है।
जिस तरफ़ भी चल पड़ेंगे रास्ता हो जाएगा।
I am a stream, aware of my esteem
Any way I move, will find my groove.
अभी इस तरफ़ न निगाह कर, मैं ग़ज़ल की पलकें सँवार लूँ।
तेरा लफ़्ज़-लफ़्ज़ हो आईना, तुझे आईने में उतार लूँ।
Do not look this way still, ghazal eyelashes didn't yet fill.
You mirror word for word,
While I shape you to be heard.
इसी शहर में कई साल से, मिरे कुछ क़रीबी अज़ीज़ हैं।
उन्हें मेरी कोई ख़बर नहीं, मुझे उनका कोई पता नहीं।
So many years over here, my close kins are there.
They aren't aware of me, me too, long time no see.
कितनी सच्चाई से मुझ से ज़िन्दगी ने कह दिया।
तू नहीं मेरा तो कोई दूसरा हो जाएगा।
How truely has the life said it to me.
If you aren't mine, another will be.
चराग़ों को आँखों में महफ़ूज़ रखना।
बडी दूर तक रात ही रात होगी।
Take care of lamps in eyes, to see
For long, enroute, will the night be.
इसीलिए तो यहाँ अब भी अजनबी हूँ मैं। तमाम लोग फ़रिश्ते हैं आदमी हूँ मैं ।
That's why I am still unknown here.
Every one's angel, I am human here.
उड़ने दो परिंदों को अभी शोख़ हवा में।
फिर लौट के बचपन के ज़माने नहीं आते।
Let the birds fly in naughty wind as a pack.

अजीब शख़्स है नाराज़ हो के हँसता है।
मैं चाहता हूँ ख़फ़ा हो तो वो ख़फ़ा ही लगे।
He is so strange a man, while angry, laugh he can.

अगर फ़ुरसत मिले पानी की तहरीरों को पढ़ लेना ।
हर एक दरिया हज़ारों साल का अफ़साना लिखता है।

अगर तलाश करूँ कोई मिल ही जाएगा।
मगर तुम्हारी तरह कोन मुझको चाहेगा?

अभी राह में कई मोड़ हैं कोई आएगा कोई जाएगा।
तुम्हें जिसने दिल से भुला दिया उसे भूलने की दुआ करो।
On route, there are bends, to come 'n go are human trends.
Who 's forgotten you from start, pray forget on your part.
अच्छा तुम्हारे शहर का दस्तूर हो गया।
जिस को गले लगा लिया वो दूर हो गया।
Custom of this place, is hard
to trace.
Whoever I embrace, goes far from place.
उजाले अपनी यादों के हमारे साथ रहने दो ।
न जाने किस गली में ज़िन्दगी की शाम हो जाए।
Let the glow of your memories be ever with me.

शोहरत की बुलंदी भी पल भर का तमाशा है।
जिस डाल पे बैठे हो वो टूट भी सकती है।
The peak of fame, is a moment' s game.
Branch you sit on, can break 'n is gone.
लोग टूट जाते हैं एक घर बनाने में ।
तुम तरस नहीं खाते बस्तियाँ जलाने में।
Erecting a house, most people retire.
You don't mind, setting houses afire.
कभी मैं अपने हाथों की लकीरों से नहीं उलझा।
मुझे मालूम है क़िस्मत का लिक्खा भी बदलता है।
I am never strained, by the lines of my hand.
As what's written in fate, gets changed O mate !
पहली बार नज़रों ने चाँद बोलते देखा ।
हम जवाब क्या देते खो गए सवालों में ।
For first time my eyes, saw moon talking under skies.
Well what could I have said, was lost in queries instead.
सात संदूकों में भर कर बंद कर दो नफ़रतें।
आज इंसाँ को मोहब्बत की ज़रूरत
है बहुत।
Enclosed in many a box, keep hate cramped in locks.
Today the humans need, love as their principal feed.
मोहब्बतों में दिखावे की दोस्ती न मिला।
अगर गले नहीं लगता तो हाथ भी न मिला
In love do not mix, a show of friendship tricks.
If you can't embrace, don't shake hands, efface.
ग़ज़लों का हुनर अपनी आँखों को सिखाएँगे।
रोएँगे बहुत लेकिन आँसू नहीं आएँगे।
I 'll teach ghazal skill, eyes 'll love still.
I 'll weep a lot, without a tear in the slot.
सर झुकाओगे तो पत्थर देवता हो जाएगा।
इतना मत चाहो उसे वो बे-वफ़ा हो
जाएगा।
If you bow down your head, stone 'll be God instead.
Don't like her so much, she 'll get an infidel touch.
ख़ुदा हम को ऐसी ख़ुदाई न दे ।
कि अपने सिवा कुछ दिखाई न दे।
O God ! Don't give such a godly sheen.
That but for self, nothing can be seen.
काग़ज़ में दब के मर गए कीड़े किताब के।
दीवाना बे - पढ़े- लिखे मशहूर हो गया।

scholars had died of late.
While the lunatic in game, got fabulous name and fame.
दादी से कहना उस की कहानी सुनाए।
जो बादशाह इश्क़ में मज़दूर हो गया।
O granny you just tell, this story as well.
A love-stuck king, turned worker in a fling.
पलकें भी चमक उठती हैं सोते में हमारी।
आँखों को अभी ख़्वाब छुपाने नहीं आते।
Eye lashes get a sheen, when in sleep I had been.
Still eyes do not know,which dreams you can't show.
जिस को देखो मेरे माथे की तरफ़ देखता है।
दर्द होता है किधर और कहाँ रौशन है ?
All those whom I see, it's the face that they see.
Where from arises pain,
shine shows in which plane?
मैं जब सो जाऊँ इन पलकों पे अपने होंट रख देना।
यक़ीं आ जाएगा पलकों तले भी दिल धड़कता है।
While I am in deep sleep, on my eyes lips you keep.
Well I 'll know for sure, below eye-lashes heart can roar.
यूँ तरस खा के न पूछो अहवाल।
तीर सीने पे लगा हो जैसे।

कोई इंसान तंहाई में भी तंहा नहीं होता।

आँखों ने कभी मील का पत्थर नहीं देखा।
I look at the goal from very first day.

उसे किसी की मुहब्बत का ए'तिबार नहीं। उसे ज़माने ने शायद बहुत सताया है ।
He doesn't believe in love, with none.
Probably he was tortured by everyone.
गुलाबों की तरह शबनम में अपना दिल भिगोते हैं।
मोहब्बत करने वाले ख़ूबसूरत लोग होते हैं।
They soak hearts like roses in dew.
Those who love are beautiful, few.
चमकती है कहीं सदियों में आँसुओं से ज़मीं ।
ग़ज़ल के शे'र कहाँ रोज़ रोज़ होते हैं !
In centuries, with tears, earth is aglow.

अब के आँसू आँखों से दिल में उतरे।
रुख़ बदला दरिया ने कैसा बहने का !
Tears descended from eyes to heart this time.

ज़हीन साँप सदा आस्तीं में रहते हैं।
जबाँ से कहते हैं दिल से मुआफ़ करते नहीं।
Intelligent snakes live up in sleeves, always.

खुले से लान में सब लोग बैठें चाय पियें।
दुआ करो कि ख़ुदा हमको आदमी कर दे।

लहजा कि जैसे सुब्ह की ख़ुशबू अज़ान दे।
जी चाहता है मैं तेरी आवाज़ चूम लूँ ।

How I wish to kiss your voice in a while.
इतनी मिलती है मेरी ग़ज़लों से सूरत तेरी। लोग तुझको मेरा महबूब समझते होंगे।
My ghazals match so much with your face.
You are my love, people can always trace.
मुझको शाम बता देती है।
तुम कैसे कपड़े पहनी हो?
To me, tells every evening.
Which dress did on you kling?
इस ख़ुशी में है मुझे ख़याल आया।
ग़म के दिन कितने ख़ूबसूरत थे।
In pleasure, appeared this belief.
How beautiful were days of grief?
ऐसे मिलो कि अपना समझता रहे सदा।
जिस शख़्स से तुम्हारा दिली इख़्तिलाफ़ है।
Always meet as if you are his part.
With the person you differ at heart.
सच सियासत से अदालत तक बहुत मसरूफ़ है।
झूट बोलो झूट में अब भी मोहब्बत है बहुत।
Truth is busy from politics to court.
Tell lies for lies still have love to court.
किताबें रिसाले न अख़बार पढना।
मगर दिल को हर रात इक बार पढ़ना।
Neither read newspaper nor magazine nor book.
But each night towards heart, have a reading look.
मुख़ालफ़त से मिरी शख़्सियत सँवरती है। मैं दुश्मनों का बहुत एहतराम करता हूँ।
My individually is shaped by opposition.
I hold my rivals in esteemed position.
सुनाते हैं मुझे ख़्वाबों की दास्तां अक्सर।
कहानियों के पुर-असरार लब तुम्हारी तरह।
Quite often they recite, to me on memory flight.
Effective story lips, like you these give me tips.
