एक बुढ़िया रोज़ चौखट पर दिया रौशन करे ।
A boy forgets everything in gaiety of the city, it's sway.
An old lady kindles lamp on the doorstep every day.
ख़ैर गर तुम से न जल पाएँ वफ़ाओं के चिराग़।
तुम बुझाना मत जो कोई दूसरा रौशन करे।
If lamps of fidelity aren't lit up by you brother.
Do not put out the one, kindled by another.
आग जलती छोड़ आए हो तो अब क्या फ़िक्र है।
जाने कितने शहर ये पागल हवा रौशन करे?
Why worry after leaving on fire, it's might.
How many cities will the mad wind alight?
आख़िर - ए-शब हुई आग़ाज़ कहानी अपनी।
हम ने पाया भी तो इक उम्र गँवा कर उस को।
End of night was start of my story, it's slot.
I got her after spending life, a whole lot.
डुबो दिया है तो अब इसका गिला क्या कीजे।
यही बहाव सफ़ीने रवाँ भी रखता था।
If it submerged now, why feel so bad ?

उसकी आँखें हैं कि डूबने वाला इंसाँ।
दूसरे डूबने वाले को पुकारे जैसे!
Her eyes are as if a drowning man.
Calls the other drowning, as he can.
नफ़रत के ख़ज़ाने में तो कुछ भी नहीं बाक़ी।
थोड़ा सा गुज़ारे के लिए प्यार बचाएँ।

रेत पर थक के गिरा हूँ तो हवा पूछती है।
आप इस दश्त में क्यूँ आए थे वहशत के बग़ैर?
The wind enquired when I fell exhausted for rest.

तुम सुनो या न सुनो हाथ बढ़ाओ न बढ़ाओ।
डूबते डूबते इक बार पुकारेंगे तुम्हें।

मैं झपटने के लिए ढूँढ रहा हूँ मौक़ा।
और वो शोख़ समझता है कि शर्माता हूँ।
I am in search of an occasion to pounce.

देखते हैं तो लहू जैसे रगें तोड़ता है।
हम तो मर जाएँगे सीने से लगा कर उस को।
Blood breaks through veins with her vision alone.

हम कौन शनावर थे कि यूँ पार उतरते।
सूखे हुए होठों की दुआ ले गई हम को।
I wasn't a swimmer good enough to cross.

खेल ये है कि किसे कौन सिवा चाहता है।
जीत जाओगे तो जाँ नज़्र गुजारेंगे तुम्हें।

एक मैं हूँ कि इस आशोब-ए-नवा में चुप हूँ।
वर्ना दुनिया मिरे ज़ख़्मों की ज़ुबाँ बोलती है।

अब आ गई है सहर अपना घर सँभालने को।
चलूँ कि जागा हुआ रात भर का मैं भी हूँ।

ज़माना फिर भी क़यामत के इंतजार में है।

मिरे सफ़ीने को ग़र्क़ाब देखने के लिए।
