मैं शाख़ से गिरा हूँ नज़र से गिरा नहीं।

आया ही नहीं हम को आहिस्ता गुज़र जाना।
शीशे का मुक़द्दर है टकरा के बिखर जाना।
I could never learn how to slowly pass ?
To collide and scatter is the fate of glass.
तारों की तरह शब के सीने में उतर जाना। आहट न हो क़दमों की इस तरह गुज़र जाना।
To slide like stars in the chest of night.
Without sound of footfall, so gently pass.
नश्शे में सँभालने का फ़न यूँ ही नहीं आता।
इन ज़ु़ल्फ़ों से सीखा है लहरा के सँवर जाना।
I have learnt from tress to get set after swing.
To keep balance when drunk is no mean class.
भर आएँगे आँखों में आँचल से बँधे
बादल।
याद आएगा जब गुल पर शबनम का बिखर जाना।
Remembering scattering of dew on flowers.
Clouds of hem knot will, in the eyes pass.
हर मोड़ पे दो आँखें हम से यही कहती हैं।
जिस तरह भी मुमकिन हो तुम लौट के घर आना।
Whichever way possible, come back home.
Two eyes convey it to me at each cross.
पत्थर को मिरा साया आईना सा चमका दे।
जाना तो मिरा शीशा यूँ दर्द से भर जाना।
Let my shadow shine a stone like glass.
If you leave, then with grief, fill my glass.
ये चाँद सितारे तुम औरों के लिए रख लो।
हम को यही जीना है हम को यहीं मर जाना।
Spare for others, the moon and stars.
I have to survive here and then pass.
जब टूट गया रिश्ता सर-सब्ज़ पहाड़ों से।
फिर तेज़ हवा जाने किस को है किधर जाना।
When kinship with green hills isn't there.
Let gale decide, which way who 'll pass.
हम को दुआएँ देते थे बाहम युँ ही मिलो।
शाख़ों पे उजले उजले फ़रिश्ते खिले हुए।
They blessed us to meet
each other like that.
Blooming on the branches, white angels sat.
गुज़ारे हम ने कई साल ऐसे दफ़्तर में।
कुआँरी लड़की रहे जैसे ग़ैर के घर में।
I have passed many years in such work space.
As an unmarried girl lives at a rival's place.
मिरी निगाह किसी दूसरे को तकने लगी।
वो लड़की बैठ गई जब मिरे बराबर में।
My eyes started staring at some other girl.
. When that girl occupied my side space.
तमाम रात मैं ख़्वाबों में जागता ही रहा।
चढ़ा हुआ है इन आँखों में रात भर का ख़ुमार।
Whole night I kept awake in the dreamy skies
Intoxicating effect of night is still in my eyes.
ये बात कि सूरत के भले दिल के बुरे हो। अल्लाह करे झूठ हो, बहुतों से सुनी है।
That you are good in face and bad at heart.
By God be it a lie, is heard from many a part.
सुझाई कुछ नहीं देता शिकस्ता यादों ने।
किसी का चेहरा किसी के बदन पे जोड़ दिया।
Nothing is apparent because
memories are shattered.
Grafting of some face on other's body hasn't mattered.

कभी तो वो आँखें वो रुख़सार पढ़ना।

अजीब आग है हमदर्दियों के मौसम की।
ग़रीब बस्तियाँ बरसात ही में जलती हैं।
Strange is the fire in kindness terrain.

शाहिद शब-ए-हिज्राँ है तिरा ज़िक्र हुआ था।
ऐ मौत भली आई तिरी उम्र बड़ी है।
Parting night is a witness, there was a mention about you.
Dear death ! You are welcome, you may live long too.
किस के अंदर क्या छुपा है कुछ पता लगता नहीं।
तैल की दौलत मिली वीरान रेगिस्तान में।
No one knows, what does it contain ?
The wealth of oil in desert terrain !
मीर, कबीर, बशीर इसी मकतब के हैं।
आ दिल के मकतब में अपना नाम लिखा।

इतनी सियाह रात में किस को सदाएँ दूँ।
ऐसा चिराग़ दे जो कभी बोलता भी हो।
Whom to call in such a dark night spell ?
Give a lamp that at times talks as well.
दिन का शहज़ादा मेरा मेहमान है, बेशक रहे।
रात का भूला मुसाफ़िर भी यहाँ ठहरा करे।
Prince of the day is my guest, let him dwell.
Let lost traveller of night stay here as well.
कैसे दोनों वक़्त गले मिलते हैं रोज़।
ये मंज़र मैंने दुश्मन के नाम लिखा।
