मैं ख़ुद को मरते हुए देख कर बहुत खुश हूँ।
ये डर भी है कि मिरी नींद खुल न जाए कहीं।
I am very happy seeing myself die.

चला जाऊँगा जैसे ख़ुद को तन्हा छोड़ कर 'अल्वी'।
मैं अपने आप को रातों में उठ कर देख लेता हूँ।

सामने दीवार पर कुछ दाग़ थे।
ग़ौर से देखा तो चेहरे हो गए।

उस से बिछड़ते वक़्त मैं रोया था ख़ूब सा। ये बात याद आई तो पहरों हँसा किया।
While parting with her, I had wept a lot.
I have laughed and laughed on this thought.
देखा न होगा तूने मगर इंतजार में।
चलते हुए समय को ठहरते हुए भी देख।
Never seen while waiting for, so to say.
Just watch moving time stop on the way.
उन दिनों घर से अजब रिश्ता था।
सारे दरवाज़े गले लगते थे।

ख़ुश थे तमाम नेकियाँ दरिया में डाल कर।

छोड़ गया मुझको 'अल्वी'।
शायद वो जल्दी में था।
'Alvi' he left me out of taste. Probably, he was in a haste.
हाय वो लोग जो देखे भी नहीं।
याद आएँ तो रुला देते हैं।
Those persons whom I have never even seen.
On splashing in memory start weeping scene.
अब तो चुपचाप शाम होती है।
पहले चिड़ियों के शोर होते थे।
Now silently, evening descends from sky.
Earlier sparrows used to outcry.
अपना घर आने से पहले।
इतनी गलियाँ क्यों आती हैं ?
Before I reach my home.

न जाने छत पे क्या देखा है 'अल्वी'
बिचारा चाँद पीला हो गया है।
'Alvi' on roof, what did it see ?
Poor moon looks pale to see.
धूप ने गुज़ारिश की।
एक बूंद बारिश की।
Sunlight applied for.
One drop of the pour.
रोज़ अच्छे नहीं लगते आँसू।
ख़ास मौकों पे मज़ा देते हैं।
Daily tears don't look nice.
