Having met causes displeasure. 

देखा है ज़िंदगी को कुछ इतने क़रीब से 

चेहरे तमाम लगने लगे हैं अजीब से 

I 've seen life from such close range. 

All faces appear to be so strange

  

ग़म और ख़ुशी में फ़र्क़ न महसूस हो जहाँ 

मैं दिल को उस मक़ाम पे लाता चला गया 

Where  no difference is in pleasure 'n pain. 

I have brought heart in such a terrain. 

 

तंग आ चुके हैं कशमकश-ए-ज़िंदगी से हम 

ठुकरा न दें जहाँ को कहीं बे-दिली से हम 

I have got so bored with tussle of life. 

I may kick aside with disdain, life. 

 

ले दे के अपने पास फ़क़त इक नज़र तो है 

क्यूँ देखें ज़िंदगी को किसी की नज़र से हम 

I am left with just my own plain view. 

Why look at life with someone else ''s clue? 

अपनी तबाहियों का हमें कोई ग़म नहीं 

तुम ने किसी के साथ मोहब्बत निभा तो दी

Over my ruins I just do not moan

At least you called someone, own. 

 

हम ग़म-ज़दा हैं लाएँ कहाँ से ख़ुशी के गीत 

देंगे वही जो पाएँगे इस ज़िंदगी से हम 

I am soaked in grief, where from songs of pleasure ? 

I can only give what life gave to me as it's treasure. 

 

चंद कलियाँ नशात की चुन कर मुद्दतों महव-ए-यास रहता हूँ 

तेरा मिलना ख़ुशी की बात सही तुझ से मिल कर उदास रहता हूँ 

Choosing some buds of joy, for long I am drenched in grief. 

Having met with you I am sad, to meet you

is joy so brief. 

 

दुनिया ने तजरबात ओ हवादिस की शक्ल में 

जो कुछ मुझे दिया है वो लौटा रहा हूँ मैं 

What world gave as tragic experience. 

I am returning the same experience. 

 

तू मुझे छोड़ के ठुकरा के भी जा सकती है 

तेरे हाथों में मिरे हाथ हैं ज़ंजीर नहीं 

You can leave and kick if you so like. 

You have my hands, not chains to strike. 

 

इक शहंशाह ने दौलत का सहारा ले कर 

हम ग़रीबों की मोहब्बत का उड़ाया है मज़ाक़ 

 

With the help of people ''s wealthy slot. 

An emperor has made fun of love' 's lot. 

 

अभी ज़िंदा हूँ लेकिन सोचता रहता हूँ ख़ल्वत में 

कि अब तक किस तमन्ना के सहारे जी लिया मैं ने 

While alone, I often think though I am alive.

बस अब तो दामन-ए-दिल छोड़ दो बेकार उम्मीदो 

बहुत दुख सह लिए मैं ने बहुत दिन जी लिया मैं ने 

Now leave my heart's hem O futile hopes.!

I have lived enough, suffered beyond scopes. 

  

मोहब्बत तर्क की मैं ने गरेबाँ सी लिया मैं ने 

ज़माने अब तो ख़ुश हो ज़हर ये भी पी लिया मैं ने 

I have severed love, stitched tattered dress.

ऐ ग़म-ए-दुनिया तुझे क्या इल्म तेरे वास्ते 

किन बहानों से तबीअ'त राह पर लाई गई 

You are unaware, for you O world grief ! 

With what excuses has state been in fief.

इस रेंगती हयात का कब तक उठाएँ बार 

बीमार अब उलझने लगे हैं तबीब से 

How long to bear load of life that crawls. 

Patient and treater are on term of brawls. 

अँधेरी शब में भी तामीर-ए-आशियाँ न रुके 

नहीं चराग़ तो क्या बर्क़ तो चमकती है 

Construction should continue even in nights dark. 

If not a lamp is alit, there is electrical spark. 

 

इस तरह निगाहें मत फेरो, ऐसा न हो धड़कन रुक जाए 

सीने में कोई पत्थर तो नहीं एहसास का मारा, दिल ही तो है

  

Don't let eyes drop, heart throb may stop . 

It is a feeling heart ,not a stone made part. 

बहुत घुटन है कोई सूरत-ए-बयाँ निकले 

अगर सदा न उठे कम से कम फ़ुग़ाँ निकले 

There's congested stock, let there be free state. 

If none is having a talk, let there be wails O mate !
