Who didn't retain fragrance of a word.in hand. 

How to place an entire book in that hand? 

हस्ती ही अपनी क्या है ज़माने के सामने 

इक ख़्वाब हैं जहाँ में बिखर जाएँ हम तो क्या

What's my entity in this world? 

As a dream I'll scatter in the world. 

आख़िर को हँस पड़ेंगे किसी एक बात पर

रोना तमाम उम्र का बेकार जाएगा

Finally I 'll laugh sometime some day. 

Weeping life long' ll be wasted this way. 

ज़ख़्म और पेड़ ने इक साथ दुआ माँगी है

देखिए पहले यहाँ कौन हरा होता है

Wound and tree have prayed same day. 

Let's see which gets green first one day?

It surprises me how could he be my friend? 

How could I tolerate being my foe offhand? 

अपने होने का कुछ अह्सास न होने से हुआ

ख़ुद से मिलना मुझे इक शख्स के खोने से हुआ

After losing the self could I realise.

On losing someone did I so realise. 

सब लोग जिधर वो हैं उधर देख रहे हैं 

हम चाहने वालों की नज़र देख रहे हैं

All are looking only her way. 

I know looks of all this way. 

ज़ीस्त से तंग हो ऐ दाग़ तो जीते क्यों हो

जान प्यारी भी नहीं जान से जाते भी नहीं

O'Daagh:! If you are sick of life, why live? 

You neither like nor leave desire to survive. 

दिल दे तो इस मिज़ाज का परवरदिगार दे

जो रंज की घड़ी भी ख़ुशी से गुज़ार दे

Who can pass even grief in joyous retort. 

रहा न दिल मे वो बेदर्द और दर्द रहा

मुक़ीम कोई हुआ है मक़ाम किस का था

My heart was occupied not by him but pain. 

To be resident isn't one who lays it's claim

 बड़ा मज़ा हो जो महशर में हम करें शिकवा

वो मिन्नतों से कहें चुप रहो ख़ुदा के लिए

What a pleasure if I lament on doomsday. 

"For God's sake", she'll plead, not to say. 

ग़ज़ब किया तेरे व'अदे पे एतबार किया

तमाम रात क़यामत का इंतजार किया

Amazing how did I believe in your vow?

Whole night I waited for the doom to tow. 

अयादत को मेरी आकर वो ये ताकीद करते हैं। 

तुझे हम मार डालेंगे नहीं तो जल्दी अच्छा हो

She instructs coming to meet me sick. 

I 'll kill you if you don't get well quick. 

आशिक़ी से मिलेगा ऐ ज़ाहिद 

बंदगी से ख़ुदा नहीं मिलता

O priest! Only with love, you' ll meet Lord. 

The prayer alone  would be of no accord. 

जिन को अपनी ख़बर नहीं अब तक

वो मेरे दिल का राज़ क्या जानें

वक़्त मुझ पर दो कठिन गुज़रे हैं सारी उम्र में 

इक तेरे आने से पहले इक तेरे जाने के बाद

Only two times in life were so hard to pass. 

One before you came,then when out en mass 

ले चला जान मेरी रूठ के जाना तेरा 

ऐसे आने से तो बेहतर था न आना तेरा

वो क़त्ल कर के मेरा हर किसी से पूछते हैं 

ये काम किस ने किया है ये काम किस का था

ख़बर सुन कर मेरे मरने की वो बोले रक़ीबों से

ख़ुदा बख़्शे बहुत सी खूबियाँ थी मरने वाले में
