रुख़ पर तिरे ज़ुल्फ़ों को परेशाँ नहीं देखा

At times it tickles your cheeks and lips. 

You have given the tress, many heady tips. 

हम हुए तुम हुए कि 'मीर' हुए 

उस की ज़ुल्फ़ों के सब असीर हुए 

..... मीर तक़ी मीर..... 

 'Mir', him or you to address. 

All are captives of her tress 

दुश्मनों से पशेमान होना पड़ा है 

दोस्तों का ख़ुलूस आज़माने के बाद 

..... ख़ुमार बारहबंकवी..... 

I have been  repentent about the foes. 

Seeing that integrity of friends goes. 

सहता रहा जफ़ा-ए-दोस्त कहता रहा अदा-ए-दोस्त 

मेरे ख़ुलूस ने मिरा जीना मुहाल कर दिया 

...... फ़ना निज़ाम कानपुरी ..... 

It's her style, so I tolerated faithless trouble. 

My integrity has put my life in trouble. 

नहीं इलाज-ए-ग़म-ए-हिज्र-ए-यार क्या कीजे 

तड़प रहा है दिल-ए-बे-क़रार क्या कीजे

वो यार बा-वफ़ा न सही बेवफ़ा तो है

Some lovely relation with  her surely exists. 

If not faithful, as faithless,she surely exists. 

हम को यारों ने याद भी न रखा 

'जौन' यारों के यार थे हम तो

I wasn't even remembered by  friends. 

'Jaun'! I had been a friend of friends. 

दैर में है काबे में सनम मयख़ाने में और मस्जिद में 

जल्वा-गर सब में है मिरा यार है अल्लाह अल्लाह..... वलीउल्ला मुहिब..... 

Seated in temple, kaaba, mosque and tavern. 

O God! My lover is present

 all over, I learn. 

ऐ याद-ए-यार देख कि ब-वस्फ़-ए-दर्द

मसरुर हैं तिरी ख़लिश-ए-ना-तवां से हम..... हसरत मोहानी..... 

Look O memory! At the quality of departure pain. 

I am happy with her mild princklings again. 

ईद पर मसरूर हैं दोनों मियाँ बीवी बहुत 

इक ख़रीदारी से पहले इक ख़रीदारी के ब'अद..... सरफराज़ शाहिद..... 

On Eid, very happy is couple with the laughter. 

One before purchase, the other there after. 

न वो सूरत दिखाते हैं न मिलते हैं गले आ कर 

न आँखें शाद होतीं हैं न दिल मसरूर होता है..... लाला माधव राम जौहर..... 

Neither she shows her face, nor does she embrace. 

Neither eyes are happy, nor 

the heart in this case. 

मसरूर हो रहे हैं ग़म-ए-आशिक़ी से हम

क्यूँ तंग होंगे कश्मकश-ए-ज़िन्दगी से हम

I am very happy with the griefs of love.

You think that I am a word repeated by mistake. 

But I am the Holy Book that your heart will take. 

एक दिन अपना सहीफ़ा मुझ पे नाज़िल हो गया

उस को पढ़ते ही मिरी सारी ख़ताएँ मर गईं..... रफ़ी रज़ा.....

 

My little book alighted on me and said

All of my sins fled after I had read. 

एक इक लफ़्ज़ से मअनी की किरन फूटती है 

रौशनी में पढ़ा जाता है सहीफ़ा मेरा 

..... गुलाम मुर्तज़ा राही..... 

From each word, radiates a ray of meaning,work of art. 

My holy book is read when light is gleaming from heart. 

ऐ सनम जिस ने तुझे चाँद सी सूरत दी है 

उसी अल्लाह ने मुझ को भी मोहब्बत दी है..... हैदर अली आतिश..... 

O sweetheart! One who gave you the moon face. 

That very God gave me love

 in it's place. 

ऐ सनम वस्ल की तदबीरों से क्या होता है 

वही होता है जो मंज़ूर-ए-ख़ुदा होता है 

..... मिर्ज़ा रज़ा बर्क़..... 

O lover! By provisions of meeting what 'll happen? 

What's agreeable to God, 

only that will happen. 

हुस्न और इश्क़ दोनों में तफ़रीक़ है पर इन्हीं दोनों पे मेरा ईमान है 

गर ख़ुदा रूठ जाए तो सज्दे करूँ और सनम रूठ जाए तो मैं क्या करूँ 

..... ताबिश कानपुरी.. ... 

Love 'n beauty are in contrast, but my faith on both is fast. 

I pray if God is angry, if lover's sly, what can I try? 

ग़ैर-मुमकिन है कि मिट जाए सनम की सूरत

दिल का ये नक़्श नहीं  नक़्श-ए-क़दम की सूरत..... वाहिद प्रेमी.....
