फिर आज सर-ए-शाम मैं कुछ सोच रहा हूँ।

लज़्ज़त - ए-ग़म तो बख़्श दी उसने।
हौसले भी 'अदम' दिए होते।
He has bestowed on us pleasure of pain.
Should also have given courage to sustain.
गुलों को खिल के मुरझाना पड़ा है।
तबस्सुम की सज़ा कितनी बड़ी है।
Flowers wilt after blooming for a while.
How big is punishment for a smile.
जी चाहता है आज 'अदम' उन को छेड़िए
डर डर के प्यार करने में कोई मज़ा नहीं।
O'Adam' I wish to tease her as a matter of right.
There's just no pleasure of love in fright.
हर दिल-फ़रेब चीज़ नज़र का ग़ुबार है।
आँखें हसीन हों तो ख़िज़ाँ भी बहार है।
Each lovely thing is dust cloud, vision dispute.
Even autumn is spring, if looking eyes are cute.
आप इक ज़हमत-ए-नज़र तो करें।
कौन बेहोश हो नहीं सकता ?
Just a spell of your eyes on fence.
Then who can retain his sense ?
ज़िन्दगी के हसीन तरकश में।
कितने बे-रहम तीर होते हैं।
In the arrow - case of life, of repute.
There are unkind arrows, no dispute.
कुछ कुछ मेरी आँखों का तसर्रुफ़ भी है शामिल।
इतना तो हसीं तू मिरे गुलफ़ाम नहीं है।
My occupancy of your eyes has added the part.
You weren't so beautiful my love, from start.
हाथ से खो न बैठना उसको।
इतनी ख़ुद्दारियाँ नहीं अच्छी।

हम को शाहों की अदालत से तवक़्क़ो तो नहीं।

फिर आ गया हूँ गर्दिश - ए-दौराँ को टाल कर।
O barmaid look at my truth and it's force.

किसी हसीं से लिपटना अशद ज़रूरी है।
हिलाल-ए-ईद तो कोई सुबूत-ए-ईद नहीं।
Embracing a beauty is essential, soon.
Enough proof of Eid isn't Eid moon.
नौजवानी में पारसा होना।
कैसा कार-ए-ज़बून है प्यारे।
Abstinence in youth, being seer
It's an unfortunate act O dear.
जिस से छुपना चाहता हूँ मैं 'अदम'।
वो सितमगर जा-ब-जा मौजूद है।
From whom I want to hide, be absent.
Everywhere that tyrant is present.
तौबा का तकल्लुफ़ कौन करे हालात की निय्यत ठीक नहीं।
रहमत का इरादा बिगड़ा है बरसात की निय्यत ठीक नहीं।
Who needs be formal to abstain, ill motive of conditions pertain.
Almighty's goodwill is gone, ill intention of rains is on.
तड़प कर मैंने तौबा तोड़ डाली।
तिरी रहमत पे इल्ज़ाम आ रहा था।
I broke promise to abstain, content.
Under scanner was Your intent.
अपनों से भी इतना तकल्लुफ़।
कितने दुनियादार बने हो !
So formal with those who are your own.
How much involved with world, it's tone.
तख़्लीक-ए-कायनात के दिलचस्प जुर्म पर।
हँसता तो होगा आज भी यज़दाँ कभी-कभी।
Creation of universe, a pleasant crime !

मैं यूँ तलाश - ए-यार में दीवाना हो गया।
काबे में पाँव रक्खा तो बुत-ख़ाना हो गया।

जेब ख़ाली है' अदम' मय क़र्ज़ पर मिलतु नहीं।
एक दो बोतल में दीवाँ बेचने वाला हूँ मैं।

किसी जानिब से कोई महजबीं आने ही वाला है।
मुझे याद आ रही है आज मथुरा और काशी की।

किसी ने हाल जो पूछा तो हो गए ख़ामोश।
तुम्हारी बात हम अपनी ज़ुबाँ से क्या कहते ?

'अदम' बहुत ही अगर रूठने लगी उम्मीद। किसी के वादे पे फिर एतबार कर लूँगा।

बे-ख़बर ऐसी भी इक परवाज़ आती है मुझे

ये अलग बात है साक़ी कि मुझे होश नहीं। होश इतना है कि मैं तुझसे फ़रामोश नहीं।
It is a separate issue that I have lost sense.

तबाह हो के हक़ायक़ के खुरदरेपन से।
तसव्वुरात की तामीर कर रहा हूँ मैं।
Destroyed by rough nature of facts.

हमने तुम्हारे बाद न रक्खी किसी से आस।
इक तजुर्बा बहुत था, बड़े काम आ गया।

पीर-ए-मुग़ाँ से हम को कोई बैर तो नहीं।
थोड़ा सा इख़्तिलाफ़ है मर्द-ए-ख़ुदा के साथ।

तुझ को क्या दूसरे के ऐबों से ?
क्यूँ फ़क़त रू-सियाह होता है ?
Why bother about faults of others, as a whole ?

मैं और उस ग़ुंचा-दहन की आरज़ू।
आरज़ू की सादगी थी मैं न था।
My longing for fiery lips on fire!
It wasn't I, but simplicity of desire.
दरोग़ के इम्तिहाँ - क़दे में सदा यही कारोबार होगा।
जो बढ़ के ताईद-ए-हक़ करेगा वही सज़ावार-ए-दार होगा।
While testing in house of lies, this 'll always be the case.

ये रोज़मर्रा के कुछ वाक़ियात-ए- शादी-ओ-ग़म।
मेरे ख़ूदा यही इंसाँ की जिंदगानी है !
These daily incidents of joy and pain clout.
O God ! Is it what human life is about ?
जो अक्सर बार-वर होने से पहले टूट जाते थे।
वही ख़स्ता शिकस्ता अहद-ओ-पैमाँ याद आते हैं।
Those which before fruiting, would collapse, lose face.
In memory old, shattered promises find the place.
वही शै मक़सद-ए-क़ल्ब-ओ-नज़र महसूस होती है।
कमी जिस की बराबर उम्र भर महसूस होती है।
Whose intention of heart and glance is strong ?
Whose absence is feit all time, life long.
काश मैं तेरी मुलाक़ात को ख़ुद ही आता।
तूर पर भेज के मूसा को पशेमाँ हूँ मैं।
I wish meeting you, I myself went.
Sending Moses on Toor, I really repent.
हौले-हौले वस्ल हुआ।
धीरे-धीरे जान गई।
Slowly ignited love-flame.
Slowly waned life flame.
मेरी जवानी के गर्म लम्हों पे डाल दे गेसुओं का साया।
ये दोपहर कुछ तो मोतबर हो तमाम माहौल जल रहा है।
On hot moments of my youth, spread a little tress shade.
Let this noon cool down a bit, atmosphere is one hot blade.
मतलब मुआमलात का कुछ पा गया हूँ मैं।
हँस कर फ़रेब-ए-चश्म-ए-करम खा गया हूँ मैं।
